For our October “Hyperlean People” feature, we are excited to introduce Davide Durastanti, Should Cost Director at the company. Read more about him!
What is your role at Hyperlean?
Should Cost Director
Why do you think it’s important for the company’s success?
Regardless of role and different skill levels of the figures present in the company, I believe that we are all important at Hyperlean. We are a software house and have only been offering a Should Costing service for a few years; I have a vision of the company’s objectives in this relatively new field, therefore, I feel responsible and I am committed to achieving them.
How do you overcome the challenges you face every day?
I like challenges and I know I’m not alone in facing them. I quote an anecdote from my Aerodynamics Professor, who during a university lecture said: “Easy things are done by everyone, we are engineers and we must do difficult things in a simple way.” It would seem, therefore, that problem-solving is within us, I say that it must always be sought, it is not “at hand”.
Careful scheduling of activities and their assignment based on complexity, delivery dates and available resources are the main activities that I carry out daily, together with the standardization of some internal processes, with the aim of streamlining the overall workflow. What has been said, in addition to allowing me to be more efficient in managing the various tasks, involves the team in an active way so that the figures feel rewarded because they are aware of being the true actors of the project. I am very satisfied when the solution comes “from below“, it’s the true response of proactive people who take responsibility for their decisions and who tend towards greater autonomy.
What is your favorite part of your job?
A particular characteristic of our company is that it has figures with transversal skills; I am a dynamic person and I don’t like being stereotyped and confined to management and coordination roles, even if they are sometimes very demanding and leave no room for anything else.
As soon as I can, I escape to do the thing I love most, which is to study the best analytical solution that can meet the needs of our customers thanks also to the help of our tools, putting all my passion and knowledge into it. When there is not enough knowledge, I delve deeper, I compare and I listen; the passion is always there! I always tell my team “We can do a technically perfect job or a technically perfect job putting passion into it” the difference is significant and it is perceived. Therefore, among the objectives I set myself is also that of transmitting this passion; keeping it for myself would serve little, transferring it to others is fundamental and motivating.
What are the most important values that guide your work and your decisions?
Hyperlean is the software boutique, when you buy in a boutique the quality is unquestionably expected. We provide solutions that are more or less complex but all characterized by a high level of customization, verticalized on the specific needs of the customer. Among the various steps of the analysis, wherever possible I dedicate a lot of time to an initial audit phase, even when the requests come from historical customers whose dynamics I know well; this approach allows us to have excellent bases from the outset to build an effective solution. We are always with the customer, from the kick-off to the delivery of the results that we always want to be on time.
How is the experience at Hyperlean helping you to grow professionally and personally?
Each of us grows to the extent of the desire we have to want to grow.
Growth is a process that forces us to step out of our comfort zone even when change is positive; I realized this immediately in the various steps of my journey at Hyperlean. The Should Costing Team was actually given a real dignity six years ago when I joined the company; initially coordinated, with a touch of pride I can say that I was the first to venture and discover what has now become a recognized discipline. Over time I have worked internally with very prepared people, with experience also in the field of university research and I admit, in complete transparency, that I learned from many of them despite managing them.
Today I interface daily with one of the major players in the aerospace derivative field and with whom we have established a consolidated partnership for years. With a view to growth and continuous improvement, I think it is fundamental to keep up to date on technologies to be ready to provide innovative solutions; in this sense, I will soon be certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and I don’t say this to show off a title but to take on further responsibility in transferring knowledge and methodologies learned from the Operational Excellence path. I conclude briefly with a phrase that deserves deep reflection: “in Hyperlean the person has been at the center of everything for years, before industry 5.0 said so“.
Finally, describe Hyperlean in three words
Young, enterprising, bold
